Even if July is a typical month for a leisurely beach vacation, it's also a good time to run in the middle of summer.
In addition to attractive triathlon events, there are also a number of trail and mountain races, company runs and regional races in July that invite you to top sporting performances.
2 atmospheric runs in the U.S.
In California, the San Francisco Marathon is held at the end of July. Due to the temperatures, the race starts early in the morning at 5:40 am. The Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta (Georgia) is one of the biggest races in the world. The 10-kilometer road race is held on Independence Day in the USA. The 60,000 or so starting places are in great demand.
For ultra runners, there are two spectacular races: The Badwater 135 Ultramarathon and the Hardrock 100. Long-distance triathlon races are in Santa Rosa and Lake Placid.
Pure triathlon
Triathletes in particular have plenty of choice in the summer. In July, there are two long-distance races in Germany with the Challenge Roth and in Austria with the IRONMAN Austria-Kärnten, which almost everyone knows by now. Since 2022, a middle-distance triathlon has also been offered in Saxony with the IRONMAN 70.3 Dresden (cancelled 2023).
Ingenious trail and mountain runs
For runners, we recommend a few trips to the mountains. How about in Austria in the region around the largest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner. In July, there are two attractive sporting events in the middle of nature: the Grossglockner Berglauf and the Grossglockner Ultra Trail.
The Swiss Matterhorn is one of the most frequent photo motifs in the world. Of course, there is also running near the four-thousand-meter peak. Namely at the Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon. A unique marathon adventure. Also world famous in Switzerland is the Eiger North Face. Overlooking this spectacular north face, the Eiger Ultra Trail has been held since 2013. The longest trail has a distance of more than 100 kilometers.
A third spectacular trail running event in Switzerland is called "Swissalpine". Running takes place in Davos and Klosters over a distance of up to 70 kilometers
