An overview of "Women's Only Races" in Switzerland.
The dates for all Women Runs in Switzerland, including registration, results and other details.
With its 400 or so running events, Switzerland is rich in starting opportunities for endurance sports fans. And there is also the odd women's run in Switzerland - that is, a running event in which only women and girls are allowed to take part.
Why is that? Just a few decades ago, ladies were disliked as participants in such sporting events, and were even largely excluded. However, when women finally established themselves in running towards the end of the last century, the offer of running events only for the female sex also grew at the same time.
This trend continues. There are events all over the world where tens of thousands of women run among themselves and without men. Many women also use such events as an introduction to running. In Switzerland, about ten such events take place every year.
What women's races are there in Switzerland?
By far the largest women's race takes place in Bern and is called the "Schweizer Frauenlauf". Around 16,000 female runners have taken part in the event organized by Markus Ryffel in recent years. In addition to runs of 15 km, 10 km and 5 km, there are also short competitions especially for children. There are also big women's races in Basel and Winterthur.
A women's run of a completely different kind is the Muddy Angel Run in Zurich. There, as in many other events, 5 km are run, but it is a mud run. This means that the participants get really dirty during these five kilometers.
