The biggest running events in Israel

One of the oldest marathons in Israel is the Tiberias Marathon or Sea of Galilee Marathon. This marathon has been held in Israel since 1977. At that time it was the first official marathon held in Israel. It is run on the southern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The course is 200 meters below sea level. This makes the Tiberias Marathon one of the lowest marathons in the world. The course record is quite respectable at 2:07:30 hours, set by Frenchman Patrick Tambwé in 2012.

Two well-known city marathons in Israel are the Jerusalem Marathon and the Tel Aviv Marathon. In Jerusalem, the marathon distance is run every year since 2011. It is the biggest marathon in Israel.

The Tel Aviv Marathon is held since 1981 with some interruptions and always takes place in February.
